Jess + Mike’s Q&A

How did you meet?

Jess: We met on MySpace. Apparently it was good for something, despite what people say.

Mike: We actually met on MySpace but we were embarrassed to admit we were “Internet lovers”, so for the first year we lied and told people we met at a bar.

What did you first notice about your sweetie?

Jess: The first thing I noticed…when we first met in person after talking online, the first thing I noticed was his blue eyes. Blue eyes and dark hair is pretty rare…at least I think it is?

Mike: I’m a guy. If I’m being honest, the first thing I noticed about my sweetie was that she was hot.

What do you like to do together?

Jess: We love to watch horror movies, take long weekends to get away, and try new restaurants. This whole wedding diet thing has been hard for us.

Mike: Jess and I spend a lot of our time together spoiling our pets rotten, accidentally killing the plants in our garden and watching the very worst streaming Netflix has to offer.

Who’s the most ticklish?

Jess: Hmmmm…I think maybe we are equally ticklish? We don’t have many tickle fights, because I’m scared of losing.

Mike: Oh man, I am definitely the most ticklish out of the pair. I basically go into what I call a “defensive seizure” like a human armadillo. It’s not pretty.

Tell us the Proposal Story!

Jess: I told Mike what I wanted most was to be surprised when we got engaged, which is super hard to do when you’ve been living together for 3 years and share a bank account! He wound up proposing to me in our bedroom while I was folding laundry in my pj’s, and I have to say, he nailed it. Obviously if he had asked me out to a fancy dinner or whisked me away somewhere I would have suspected him, we both knew we’d be getting married someday, and we talked about it a lot. It was sweet, and simple, and I couldn’t have asked for anything more.

Mike: I bought the ring in the morning while she was at work, and it was immediately burning a hole in my pocket. I knew I had to propose that night or I was going to lose my mind (I’m terrible at keeping my mouth shut). She came home that evening and I asked her if she wanted to go out for dinner that night, and she declined, saying she was exhausted and wanted nothing more than to slip into her pajamas, fold laundry and go to bed early. So, with my hand forced, I dropped down on one knee in our bedroom. While she was in her pajamas. Folding laundry.

What’s your favorite feature/characteristic about your sweetie?

Jess: My favorite Mike characteristic is definitely his sense of humor. There is not a single day that goes by that he doesn’t make me laugh (and even snort), which is what I always dreamed about in a husband.

Mike: Jess makes me laugh like you wouldn’t believe. Not just polite “I better laugh because my girlfriend executed a joke poorly” chuckling, but honest, belly splitting laughter. Her sense of humor was the second thing I was immediately attracted to her for. You know, after the whole “this girl is hot” thing.

Have you picked a honeymoon destination? If so, where are you going?

Jess: YES! We are going to Islamorada in the Florida Keys for 5 days and I couldn’t be more excited. After all of this planning and money saving, I’m ready to get away!

Mike: We’re going to stay in the Florida Keys (Islamorada) for a week or two immediately after we get married, but we’ll be planning a longer European honeymoon in about a year.

How is the wedding planning going?

Jess:  The planning is mostly done…though my list doesn’t seem to be getting any shorter somehow…but it’s all just little stuff and logistics. We’re ready!

Mike: The wedding planning is going well! We’ve chosen to go the simple, small, more casual route, which makes planning much less stressful. Of course, I’m saying that as a guy, and guys historically have it easy when it comes to this stuff. Trust me, I’m not complaining.

What are you most excited about for the wedding?

Jess:  I’m most excited about finally being husband and wife. I’ve called Mike “husband” for a while now, and I can’t wait to for people to stop looking at me like I’m a weirdo. That, and my dress. I LOVE my dress. I might wear it every weekend around the house after the wedding is over.

Mike: I’m very excited to see which guest performs the best inebriated dance moves at the reception. I might start a betting pool.
